The Photography Club! by Brandon Murray
A message from Brandon Murray:
Hi Everyone!
Hi Everyone!
So I'm starting up a photography club! This post is to share my ideas of how I saw the club working.
First off, I am not a professional photographer, or even a good photographer. I just enjoy it and I know a few technical things about photography, and I figured everyone who is in the club is around the same level and can share tips, ideas and stuff so we can all become better together.
The way I saw this group working was in a few different ways.
- I would encourage everyone to post some of your photography on thebusthemetaphor (http://thebusthemetaphor
.blogspot.com / ) by sending it to chris@theorb.org. I would imagine once we get a good amount of pictures up there, people could make it routine to visit to comment and critique others photography. - We might have a meeting once a month for an hour where we could bring some pictures to talk about and share with the group. That way we could have a group critique of our pictures. Then after that – head out for a field trip somewhere to shoot some pictures together so we could help eachother while we work.
- We would be officially responsible for photographing ORB events like Prom, field trips, weekly meetings etc. We could assign one or two people officially
- Once or twice a year have an art and photography show with the painting/art club that Bri Deane started at the church. We could support it by brining in a few bands as well.
- In addition to that, maybe have everyone select their best picture and see if we could get a show at a gallery in Red Bank.
- If we get enough submissions each week on thebusthemetaphor, we could all vote for our favorite and then that could be the “Welcome to ORB” slide for Tuesday YAG and Sunday service for that week.
- I will send out a monthly “assignment” for things to shoot that month. Things like “take an informal portrait of a friend or family member”, “shoot a picture with a lot of color”, “shoot a picture with very little color”, “shoot a picture at night and experiment with lights”
Also, anyone can come up with an assignment. Just send me suggestions and I will use those for the following month.

Also, please let me know what you think of the ideas presented so far? Which ones do you think will work? Which ones won’t?
Any suggestions for first field trip? I would like to go to NYC, or Asbury Park. For amazing shots of Asbury Park, check out thebusthemetaphor on facebook and look at Bri Deane’s shots (will be posted on blog soon). AMAZING.
